The Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN), Oyo State Branch, has expressed strong opposition to the recent increase in health insurance deductions of 7.5% from the basic salaries of Oyo State workers. The union characterizes this development as unreasonable and detrimental to its members in the state.

In response to the announcement made by the leadership of the Oyo State Health Insurance Agency (OYSHIA) regarding the hike in health insurance deductions for civil and public servants in the state, the ASCSN State Secretary Comrade Mustapha Babatunde, condemned the decision. The union emphasizes its commitment to health insurance as a means of protecting its members, arguing that such initiatives should not result in financial hardship but should remain affordable for all employees.

During his remarks on behalf of the union members, the State Secretary of the industrial union highlighted the lack of prior consultation before the implementation of the 7.5% increase. He pointed out ongoing complaints from members regarding their difficulties in accessing the health insurance scheme and stressed that the leadership of OYSHIA should address these grievances to ensure adequate healthcare services for the workforce.

Additionally, the union leader commended Governor Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde for his worker-friendly policies and the positive relationship he has fostered with labour unions in the state. He acknowledged the Governor's timely payment of salaries, gratuities, and pensions, reinforcing the view that he is indeed the "people's Governor."

In conclusion, the Secretary called for an immediate reversal of the 7.5% deduction to the previous rate until a comprehensive review and consultation with all relevant stakeholders can take place. He urged union members to remain patient and steadfast in their commitment to safeguarding the interests of workers in the state.
