Senator Yunus Akintunde, representing Oyo Central Senatorial District, has been honoured as the Best Senator of the Year by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council.




In a press statement signed by Hon. Kunle Olatunji, Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to Senator Yunus Akintunde on Saturday noted that the recognition was conferred during the grand finale of the 2025 Press Week of the Council, held at a well-attended ceremony in Ibadan on Friday 17th October 2025. 

The award presentation was coordinated by Prince (Comrade) Lanre Ogundipe, a former National President of the NUJ, assisted by Comrade Demola Babalola, Chairman, NUJ Oyo State Council.

In his acceptance remarks, Senator Akintunde expressed deep appreciation to the Union for the honour, describing it as a call to greater service.

According to him, “I am driven by my commitment and passion to serve humanity in any capacity I find myself. This recognition by the Oyo State NUJ further challenges me to do more, particularly in the areas of legislation, community infrastructure development, and human capital empowerment, which remain central to my programs and action plan as a Senator representing Oyo Central at the National Assembly.”

Senator Akintunde highlighted some of his key achievements in legislative representation, including the sponsorship of critical bills with far-reaching impacts on his constituents, Oyo State, and Nigeria at large, empowerment and training of artisans such as tailors automobile mechanics, traders, welders, ICT phone repairers, provision of farmers with improved seedlings and farm implements, solar powered street lights for communities, markets, health centers, religious worship centres, palaces, Okada joints, solar powered bore hole water facilities still ongoing for 118 wards, construction and rehabilitation of schools, new modern markets and health centers across the eleven Local governments within Oyo Central Senatorial District among other notable achievements.

He further assured Nigerians of a bright and prosperous future, noting that the reform policies of the present administration under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu are already yielding positive results. “These reforms will soon translate into sustainable economic relief, enabling citizens to enjoy a better quality of life and shared prosperity,” he added.

In their separate remarks, Comrade Lanre Ogundipe and Comrade Demola Babalola commended Senator Akintunde for his sterling performance and laudable achievements as a first-time Senator. They expressed optimism that the award would further inspire him to continue delivering impactful service, while urging other elected officials to emulate his commitment to responsible and responsive leadership.

The event was graced by notable chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, including Hon. Yemi Aderibigbe; Dr. Joshua Oyebamiji, APC Chairman, Oyo Central Senatorial District; APC local government chairmen within the district; legislative aides; community relations coordinators; special assistants; liaison officers; and several political associates of Senator Yunus Akintunde.
