NAOS Calls for Unwavering Support for Dangote Refinery as a National Asset

The National Association of Oduduwa Students (NAOS) has raised a strong alarm over the sustained propaganda and orchestrated attacks on the Dangote Refinery by NUPENG and other vested interests in the oil and gas sector.

The Association insisted that these actions are not only targeted at one company but are a direct threat to Nigeria’s economic independence and industrial future.

NAOS emphasized that the Dangote Refinery stands as one of the greatest private sector investments in Africa, designed to reduce Nigeria’s dependence on fuel importation, create jobs, and boost industrialization. Instead of being sabotaged, the Association argued, such a monumental project should be shielded and celebrated as a beacon of hope for national development,  noting that it is particularly significant that the refinery is located in Yorubaland.

The Association described it as a priceless asset to the Yoruba nation, a blessing to Nigeria, and a landmark achievement for the African continent. NAOS therefore declared that Yorubaland must take collective responsibility in safeguarding this vision.

In a statement issued by its President, Ambassador Benedict Adetunji, NAOS condemned the attitude of NUPENG and warned that the failure of the Federal Government to act decisively could embolden anti-development forces.

“If this can be done to Dangote Refinery today, it can be done to any other indigenous investor tomorrow,” he said. “Those who work against this refinery are not only fighting Dangote Group but also the future of Nigerians.”

The Association further called on eminent Royal fathers across Yorubaland including the Ooni of Ife, Alaafin of Oyo, Oba of Lagos (whose kingdom hosts the refinery), Alake of Egbaland, Owa Obokun of Ijesha Kingdom, Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Deji of Akure, and other notable traditional rulers to rise in defense of this historic investment.

NAOS maintained that the collective voices of Yoruba monarchs can send a strong message of solidarity and protection for the refinery.

Beyond cultural leaders, NAOS also appealed to stakeholders in the oil and gas sector to set aside personal or sectional interests and unite in support of the refinery.

According to the student movement, supporting the vision of Alhaji Aliko Dangote is not about an individual but about securing Nigeria’s economic sovereignty and strengthening its industrial foundation.

Ambassador Adetunji further stated that the Dangote Refinery represents more than business, it is a national lifeline. “For decades, Nigeria has been trapped in fuel importation and economic dependency. This refinery is the first bold step towards breaking that chain. To sabotage it is to sabotage our collective progress,” he declared.

NAOS aso called on all Nigerians; youths, policymakers, traditional rulers, and civil society to rally behind the Dangote Refinery as a project of pride, unity, and national survival.

Meanwhile, the Association reaffirmed its commitment to defending indigenous enterprises that carry the vision of economic liberation, stressing that history will not forgive those who frustrate the dreams of genuine nation builders.
