Ongoing SLA Airport upgrade needs transparency treat to Oyo State citizens-Oyo APC

The Publicity Secretary of All Progressives Congress in Oyo State, Wasiu Sadare has called for transparency in the ongoing Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport Upgrade.

The APC spokesperson said this while featuring on Prince FM Ibadan on Wednesday, saying the upgrade needed more questioning for transparency.

Sadare noted that the ongoing project which the Seyi Makinde administration began on March 2024 remains unclear as to importance portended.

The APC spokesperson added that the arrangement for award is yet to be made formal beginning from the contractors in charge, expected completion period and assumed fund for its transparent from the outset of the execution.

Sadare noted that the project earlier announced for 42billion Naira has been informally increased to 52billion Naira by an additional 10billion naira recently , insisting that the project lacked due process at procurement.


He maintained that the Seyi Makinde led administration has lost focus in developing the state economy, saying the the 52billion Naira could have yielded more if injected into another sector of the economy.

The APC Publicity Secretary maintained that the project should have been dropped, saying when it was a domestic airport, it didn’t make much economic boost.

“About 50 meters from here, Seyi Makinde has failed to deliver a bus terminal(Iwo Road) for the last five years. The ongoing Iwo Road Bus terminal is equivalent to a hatchery. If he cannot deliver this as promised how do we trust his fulfillment on the airport?”

“How many people in the state traffic through flights? People only air traffic at best interest and not as projected will engender the economy of Oyo State”, he said.

Sadare said rather than investing whoopingly in the project, believed Lagos State shares boundary with Oyo State and air trafficking from there could be prioritized for now as to use the fund for economy revolution of the state.

While calling the government to desist from converting farm estates to housing estates, said the government should ensure transparency in its dealing for public trust and credibility.


Meanwhile, the APC Spokesperson challenged the Independent National Electoral Commission to fast track its bye elections process by providing due guidelines which will avail the party present credible, competent candidate for the available vacuum set from the demise of Late Olaide Akinyemi Jagaban, a member who represented Ibadan North Federal Constituency in the year 2024.

Sadare,while presenting condolences to the APC and passed on federal lawmaker’s family members, who insisted that his party has capable candidates for the exercise, said his candidate will be announced within twenty-four hours of INEC’s readiness for the Bye-election which enable the Ibadan North Federal Constituents continue to enjoy due dividends of democracy.
