The Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers (NIMechE) held its 15th Annual Mechanical Engineers Distinguished Lecture (MEDL) with Senator Iyiola Omisore as the guest lecturer.

The lecture, themed "Imperative Mechanical Engineering Strategies for Socio-Economic Development Based on National Budget, Challenges and Potentials," highlighted the crucial role mechanical engineers play in addressing Nigeria's socio-economic challenges.
Senator Omisore emphasized the need for mechanical engineers to develop innovative solutions to tackle poverty, unemployment, inadequate infrastructure, and environmental degradation.

He identified key areas where mechanical engineers can make significant contributions, including energy and power generation, oil and gas, automotive, aerospace, and aviation, construction, and infrastructural development, as well as healthcare and security.

The senator stressed the importance of harnessing renewable energy sources, such as solar power, to supplement the national grid and reduce the country's reliance on fossil fuels.

He also called for increased investment in infrastructure development, including roads, bridges, and energy, to drive economic growth and development.

Senator Omisore urged mechanical engineers to develop locally-produced essential biomedical equipment and instruments to address healthcare challenges.

He emphasized the need for human capital development, including education, healthcare, and skills development, to raise the needed manpower for sustainable development.

The former Osun Deputy governor highlighted the potential of mechanical engineering to drive socio-economic development in Nigeria and the need for innovative solutions to address the country's challenges.
