Gunmen storm Abuja estate, kidnap residents

A group of heavily armed kidnappers invaded Grow Homes estate in the Chikakore area of Kubwa, Abuja, in the early hours of Monday and held residents hostage.

A resident who pleaded anonymity said the armed men overpowered the vigilante group and shot sporadically in the air to announce their presence between 12:00 am and 1:30 am.

He added that police arrived at the scene around 1am and exchanged fierce gunfire for about 30 minutes.

At the time of filing this report, the exact number of kidnapped victims could not be ascertained.

“The incident happened around 12:00 am. Those guys were well-armed, and they overpowered the local vigilance team,” a resident said.

The resident appealed to the Federal Government to repair the dilapidated road for access to security patrol vehicles, and to site a police station in the area.
