Residents of Molade, Wakajaye- Ajagba, Odo-Oba/Osungbade/ Ayansina,Yegide Areas of Ibadan have condemned the persistent power outages in their respective communities.

The residents described this as a deliberate attempt to make life unbearable for them.

In an exclusive interview with newsmen, the residents expressed frustration that despite being categorized under the Band C category, which is supposed to receive 12 hours of electricity, they barely got up to 2 uninterrupted hours of power daily.

At Molade area of Iwo Road, a grocer and beverage storeowner, Madam Dupe Olabisi, complained that despite paying her electricity bills monthly, she doesn’t receive the service she pays for. “I’m tired of paying for a service that I’m not getting,” she said. “I have to purchase iced blocks to keep my drinks cold. If I don’t, people won’t buy from me.”

She added that the erratic power supply takes toll on her income. “Look at it now; I have to use iced blocks to freeze my beverages and water. If I don’t do that, people won’t buy from me.”

To Mr. Adisa JohnPaul,  a resident of Wakajaye- Ajagba said the erratic power supply has consistently forced his community members to adopt alternative power supply, which he said throw the entire community into darknesses.

John Paul faulted the IBEDC staff's continuous undue estimate bills delivery to customers in the area.

" It is highly ridiculous that if at all the power will be restored, at least for its unusual premature restoration, it is in the morning when virtually 89 percent  of Wakajaye- Ajagba-Olosaoko will have gone for their township jobs. I know the IBEDC has the capacity to turn things around. We used to enjoy light before IBEDC took up the contract from the federal government. ", he said

Mrs Adeola Bankole , a respected resident of Odo-Oba/Osungbade/Ayansina, Yegide Area of Ibadan lamented very poor power supply in her area, describing it a deliberate act by the IBEDC Staff.

" We have lights only towards the end of the month and it's for 30 minutes. We hardly enjoy thirty (30) minutes stable power at Yegide. We depend on torch lights and battery powered lights, is IBEDC here again? We can say the disposition is inimical to growth and development of socio-economies in Yegide and Oyo State at large"

In general, the residents appealed to the federal government, specifically the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, and other relevant authorities to intervene and put an end to the long-standing problem.

Recall, the Oyo State House of Assembly under the leadership of its speaker, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, represented by deputy speaker, Hon. Mohammed Fadeyi condemned power rationing and poor power supply to residents of Oyo State by the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, IBEDC in its sitting February 2025.
