UK PM: Labour Party's Starmer's landslide win crushes 14 year ruling of Conservative Party in the United Kingdom
The Labour Party has secured a landslide victory in the UK election to end 14 years of Conservative rule.
Keir Starmer, the Labour leader and incoming prime minister, said in his victory speech, Keir Starmer,
“Change begins now.”
Outgoing Conservative Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has conceded defeat, saying it has been a “difficult night”.
There was a surge in support for the Liberal Democrats, while the populist right wing Reform UK party picked up support from disgruntled Conservative voters to win a clutch of parliamentary seats.
The Scottish National Party had what party leader John Swinney called a “very poor result” losing dozens of seats.
Key issues for voters in the UK included the cost of living, the health service and housing.
Speaking, the outgoing prime Minister, Rishi Sunak said the loss was a decision of the British to step down his party Conservative Party over four years.
He noted that he was ready to return to his family and spend more time with them, while wishing the prime minister elect a successful run for the development of the United Kingdom.
Meanwhile, experts have related the loss of Rishi Sunak to three factors including long stay in power for fourteen years, stagnated standard of living and turmoil over five successive prime ministers which within the last five years since Brexit year.
They added that since incoming Labour Party promised to grow economy and reduce illegal immigration , Britons made a sympathy voting to switch away from the enmesh of Conservative Party, almost two decades since leaving of Tony Blair.
Keir Starmer was born 2nd September, 1962.
