Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde has said that his administration will continue to address challenges at the local councils, despite supreme Court ruling on local government autonomy.
The assurance came during a state stakeholders' advisory/consultative meeting held at the Executive Chamber, Secretariat, Ibadan on Monday.
Governor Makinde noted that it is expedient that a critical deliberation was staged over the last Thursday's Supreme Court ruling on autonomy, saying his administration has never failed in delivering dividends to the people at the grassroots since election in office.
The governor who said the judgment, which has had no document to its effect, has created a lacuna between Supreme Court and the constitution of the federal Republic of Nigeria.
While boasting on infrastructural development in the local councils, noted that its administration has consistently paid salaries to local government workers, due allowances, increased payment of gratuity and pensions, with twice conduct of successful local government elections and building of federal government roads including Oyo-Fashola Road.
The governor maintained that the problem of federal government's allocation fund to the local government councils is not sharing rather the mechanism to make bigger transformation towards destroying poverty among the people at the grassroots.
Speaking with newsmen after the meeting, Oyo State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Biodun Aikomo and Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy matters, Ademola Ojo noted that two technical committees have been set up to consider and review the Supreme Court ruling on local government autonomy, including 1992/1999 local councils expert and legal team with an expected report between four and six weeks
