Tinubu has approved Ibadan Airport upgrade,' We'll expand runway, build new terminal within three weeks', -Makinde

Oyo Sate government has announced its readiness to expand Ibadan Airport runway and building of a new terminal following its approval by the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to an international airport.

 The announcement was made during a courtesy visit by the chief of Air Staff, Nigerian Airforce, Air Marshall Hassan Baba Abubakar to Governor Seyi Makinde in his office on Wednesday.

Speaking, Chief of the Air staff, Nigerian Air Force,NAF, Air Marshall Hassan Baba Abubakar, who described the governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde as a visionary leader, appreciated the governor for acquiring 60 hectares of land for the agency's base at Ajia in Ibadan.

Air Marshall Baba Abubakar urged the government to expedite action on its ongoing 10kilometer Ajia-Airport Road as to ease movement of his agency's activities in the area at relocation, and fuller compensation of locales of Ajia Airforce Base as never to hinder performance and activities of the Force.

"His Excellency,I will also like to thank you for profoundingly declaring support to the Armed Forces of Nigeria, particularly the immense support to the Nigerian Air Force."

"I'll also like to inform that we intend an acceleration development of our new Ajia Air Force Base, we are still counting on of the promise of His Excellency, we solicit your immense support for a speedy completion of access road to Ajia to Ibadan Airport which is about 10 kilometers", he said.

In his reaction, the governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde maintained that his administration would continue to build relationship with the Airforce, applauding the state security unit, Operation Burst and Oju Asa for massive security performance.

Governor Makinde, while assuring building of first world environment corridor at Ajia, applauded the presidency for approving Ibadan Airport to an International airport , noted that he would constitute a committee over the approval, to include two members of the Air force, while the expansion of runway and new terminal building will commence within the next three weeks."

"We are glad to inform you that just last week we were informed by the presidency that the Ibadan Airport has been approved for an upgrade."

"The report from the early this week , that the president has graciously approved my request for the airport to be upgraded."

" So, I am going to Abuja,immediately after tbis meeting for Nigeria Governors' Forum, NGF, then, I'll have the opportunity to also see Mr President, and see if I can get the document relating to the approval."
 
" Within two to three weeks, we'lol start the project, we'll expand the runway and build a new terminal, a committee will be constituted to that effect to include two to three Airforce members", Makinde noted.

Meanwhile, the governor has assured of double checking the Ajia compensated residents, provide vehicle and logistics as requested by the chief of the Air Staff, Nigerian Airforce, Baba Abubakar for an impactful socio-economic sustenance of the state.

Present at the event included the secretary to the state government, Professor Olanike Adeyemo, Head of Service, Olubunmi Oni,mni, Director general, Oyo State Operation Burst, Rt.Col. James Olayinka, delegates from the AirForce, government functionaries, among others.
